Walking in Northamptonshire Countryside

Northamptonshire is one of England's hidden gems. It offers a wealth of beautiful undulating countryside and a fascinating history.

As Nordic Walking Instructors in this fabulous location, we risk assess many walks & as we are very proud of our surroundings, we would like to share some of these walks with you.

This page will be constantly updated as we add more walks to the portfolio, so keep checking back for updates.

Bugbrooke Mill Meander - 4.5 miles

Commencing at one of the largest village greens in the country at Nether Heyford we pick up the Nene Way heading for Bugbrooke, travelling along the route of the river for part of our journey, we cross fields into Bugbrooke village. We walk through the village for a short distance before picking up a well marked footpath back to Nether Heyford.

Astcote Amble - 5.5 miles

Commencing at Pattishall primary school at the edge of Astcote, we walk through the village & pick up a well trodden farm track leading us onto a bridleway. We pass through a variety of arable & livestock fields eventually picking up the Eastcote Road to Gayton. Once in Gayton we meander through a path behind the village school picking up the public footpath heading to the tiny hamlet of Dalscote. We then follow a quite country road around the edge of Eastcote , returning to the school.

Grimscote Gallop - 6 miles

Commencing at the Red Lion in Litchborough we walk to the edge of this pretty village & pick up a well trodden farm track to the neighbouring village of Grimscote. We cross fields passing the famous monument commemorating the birth of radar http://www.aboutmyarea.co.uk/site/content.asp?area=295&type=4085&story=155871. We then take a fairly steep climb upto the village of Upper Stowe, passing through the village, heading back across fields to Litchborough.

Towpath Trek - 6.5 miles

Commencing at the Old Dairy Farm in Upper Stowe, we cross to the village of Church Stowe passing a number of small lakes. We pick up the canal towpath where we then trek for approx 3.5 miles along fairly flat terrain looking out for Heron, Kingfisher, Swans, various duck & geese varieties, with lots of young in tow in Spring & early summer. We leave the tow path near Bugbrooke & start climing back across fields towards Upper Stowe. Although slightly longer than some of our walks the main part of the walk is fairly flat, although we do climb up a moderate incline once leaving the towpath.

Four Village Hike - 6 miles

Commencing at the Red Lion Pub in Litchborough, we head across fields to the village of Upper Stowe pass the Old Dairy Farm Centre to Church Stowe picking up the Macmillan Way to Farthingstone village, where we pass through the outskirts of this pituresque village returning across fields back to Litchborough.

Home Farm Hike - 3 miles

Commencing at the Kings Arms Pub in Farthingstone we cross fields heading towards Litchborough were we pick up a track back into Farthingstone.

Commencing at the Kings Arms Pub in Farthingstone we cross fields heading towards Knightley Wood where we cut across Farthingstone Golf Course & down a quite track back into Farthingstone.

Beacon Amble - 2.5 miles

Commencing at the Kings Arms Pub in Farthingstone we cross fields to pass the Air Navigation Beacon at Farthingstone http://www.waymarking.com/gallery/default.aspx?f=1&guid=0def09b9-a130-46f6-9c0f-b61ba8903fa1&gid=2 which is an 'unusual' site to say the least. We then continue through some lovely countryside crossing a number of stiles to meander back to the village of Farthingstone.

Mantles Heath Meander - 4 miles

Commencing at the Kings Arms Pub at Farthingstone we cross fields towards Mantles Heath Wood, we take a well trodden path through the wood where you can find a stunning display of bluebells & wild daffodils in the spring. Once through the wood we take the Knightley Way back towards Farthingstone.

Farthingstone Folly - 6 miles

Commencing at the Kings Arms Pub in Farthingstone, we complete the circumference of all our Farthingstone Walks, crossing fields & Mantles Heath Wood returning to the village on a circular route. This is a pleasant walk, reasonably flat & despite the length suitable for most walkers with a reasonable level of fitness.

Commencing at the Old Dairy Farm Centre, we take the path to Church Stowe & then follow a beautiful route across fields & return to Upper Stowe on a circular route.

Church Stowe / Canal Route - 4.3 miles

Commencing at the Old Dairy Farm Centre we take the path to Church Stowe, across fields, past several beautiful lakes towards Weedon, we then pick up the canal tow path for a short distance returning along the same route. This is a very pretty route with lots of wild life to look out for, we often see deer around the wood & kingfishers & heron along the canal bank.

Litchborough Loop - 4.7 miles

Commencing at the Old Dairy Farm Centre, we take the path to Church Stowe & then follow a beautiful route across fields to the village of Litchborough, returning to Upper Stowe on a circular route.

There are some spectacular views across the Northamptonshire countryside & on a clear day you can see over to Northampton town.

Heyford Hike - 4 miles

Commencing at the Narrow Boat Car Park on A5, we pick up the Nene Way to Flore, walk through the outskirts of this pretty village & continue across fields on Nene Way to Heyford. We twist through the back streets of this quaint village eventually meeting the canal tow path which we walk along to return to our starting point.
