Where do I start?

It is not unusual once treatment has finished for ladies with breast cancer to start feeling isolated. From being the focus of attention with friends, family, doctors etc, once treatment has ended ladies often feel 'what now'?. You may feel unattractive, low self esteem, often put on weight, embarrassed to name just a few emotions.

One of the proven benefits of post breast cancer recovery is exercise. This doesn't have to be strenuous, you don't have to start changing in a gym or swimming pool & it could be something that combines exercise with a social gathering to help meet new people & generally make you feel better.

How Nordic Walking can help?

Nordic Walking is an amazing exercise to help you get active, it can help with muscle tone, cardiovascular improvement, feel good factor as you are outdoors in the fresh air, meeting new people which could be specific groups aimed at post breast cancer ladies, or just a way of meeting a new group of people who enjoy walking & being outdoors.

Whatever your goals Nordic Walking is worth consideration & has helped many post breast cancer ladies already.

What is Nordic Walking?

Workout that tones the whole body.

Burns 46% more calories than ordinary walking.

Easy on the knees & joints.

Sociable, safe outdoor exercise.

Suitable for all ability levels,

Nordic Walking should not be confused with trekking, it is a specific technique that if taught correctly uses upto 90% of your muscle groups.

Nordic Walking was developed in the 1930's in FInland to help cross country skiiers train in the summer months.

By the 1980's Nordic Walking became a regular activity in the fitness world mainly in Scandinavian countries, as it was a proven full body workout using very little equipment. It rapidly expanded into other European Countries & USA.

It is now one of the fastest growing fitness activities in the UK.

The concept of Nordic Walking is to use Nordic Poles which are specifically designed for the activity to propel the body forward using power in the upper body to lengthen the stride. Although Nordic Walking burns more calories than normal walking & uses all the major muscle groups in the body, once the technique is perfected it actually feels easier than normal walking.

Anyone who has learnt to Nordic Walk correctly will confirm that the use of Nordic Poles gives the participant a full workout both cardiovascular & overall fitness but actually feels easier than most other fitness activities.
